mormon monastery
The Mormon Monastery project is one effort of many to cultivate the contemplative dimensions of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. This effort in particular is an architectural design project aimed at building a contemplative prayer space and meditation garden overlooking the Wasatch mountains.
As President Russell M. Nelson recently said, "...the voice of the Lord is not 'a voice of a great tumultuous noise, but … it [is] a still voice of perfect mildness, [like] a whisper, and it [pierces] even to the very soul.' In order to hear this still voice, you too must be still!"
Though I use the folk term "mormon" in the title, this project is intended to be highly respectful of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as members of all faiths (including no faith). I am seeking to provide a space for serious exploration of contemplative practice through a Latter-day Saint lens, which I see as being open to and for the benefit of all visitors, from all traditions.
The chapel and gardens are being design to sit appropriately embedded in the natural landscape, a building in divine collaboration with the land on which it rests.
